A kindergarten in Bogotá, Colombia, selected by GSAS professor Barry Bergdoll ’77CC, ’86GSAS to appear in the book Designed for the Future: 80 Practical Ideas for a Sustainable World, edited by Jared Green ’99SIPA. This kindergarten is in a very poor area, where schools tend to be fenced off from the public, but in this innovative design, a lattice of angled steel poles creates a secure environment without shutting out the world. Within an oval enclosure, classrooms are scattered whimsically like giant dice. At night, the school doubles as a community center.
