Columbia's Diversity Initiatives Applauded by “Insight” Magazine

Insight into Diversity, a magazine that covers enrollment and employment trends in higher education, has recognized Columbia for its efforts to build a diverse faculty and student body.

The magazine named Columbia a 2016 Diversity Champion, noting that the University has for more than a decade sustained “a proactive effort focused on attracting and retaining the best and brightest scholars” while increasing diversity by race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.

Columbia has invested $85 million in recruiting and retaining underrepresented faculty across the University in recent years; it has also expanded college access to low-income, first-generation, and historically underrepresented students through its need-blind admissions policies and investments in financial aid.

Insight also named President Lee C. Bollinger a recipient of its 2016 Giving Back Award for fostering an environment of inclusion at Columbia.
